More and more people are looking for support in changing their lives. I gear change oriented therapy toward addressing your emotional wellness and improving your overall mental health.
We will focus on moving you forward in your life, rather than the older psychodynamic process that spans years. The psychodynamic process involves several appointments a week talking and talking, while your therapist listens and nods with an occasional “uh ha."
Change oriented therapy is about making a difference more quickly, in far fewer sessions. The days of blank-slate, long term psychotherapy are turning towards more goal-oriented therapy where the focus is on changing more quickly.
No matter what kinds of goals you have, change oriented therapy can help you focus on what you want and help you move in that direction. You can narrowly or broadly target your goals. They can be simple and straightforward, such as becoming “more assertive”, or even more targeted such as reducing your “feelings of anxiety.”
Since no two people are the same, our focus on how you can change is never the same. We will tailor every session just for you, based on what you bring to the session and the outcome you desire. Our intent is to meet your needs, understand what fits with your personality and compassionately support you as you achieve your goals.
In each subsequent session, we will talk how the changes you have made are affecting your life. Each change you make has a rippling effect throughout your life. You can see evidence of even the smallest change in your relationships, your conversations, your daily choices, your mood and what you do and say.
Along the way, you can develop insight into your emotional life, how your relationships work, your patterns of thinking and how things fit into your life. You may recognize things that you have not noticed before you changed your perspective. You can become aware of thoughts that drive actions that used to happen unconciously. This new awareness can become opportunities for you to change your life in significant ways. As you continue to notice the effect of the changes you make, you can find a place of balance, comfort and peace.
No rules apply to how you change yourself and your life. You can make any kinds of changes that fit the life you want. Some can be internal and some can be external. All the changes you make move you in a direction that makes sense to you. They are intended to enhance your life. You are the only one who knows what is right for you. If a change doesn’t fit, you can always make another change to replace it or go back to something that works better for you. The process is flexible and forgiving. No mistakes exist for you to make. You will explore and experiment a lot.
I trust that you will make changes that benefit you and help you become the best version of yourself. This non-judgmental process becomes integrated into your everyday functioning. The results become part of who you are. They will last long after you conclude therapy. until you want to make new changes that fit with where your life is going next.
